Sudan Doctors Network: Over 170 Civilians Killed in Militia Shelling of Al-Fashir in May

Al Fashir – Sudanhorizon

The Sudan Doctors Network has revealed that 179 civilians were killed as a result of the deliberate missile shelling by the Rapid Support Militia on civilian quarters in Al Fashir in May.
It also said at least 12 persons have died as a result of hunger and the food crisis experienced by the town, sieged by the militias for now over a year.
The Sudan Doctors Network, has made an urgent appeal in a statement published in its Facebook account, to save more than 350,000 children directly exposed to acute malnutrition resulting from almost total lack of food, with militia imposing full and deliberate blockade on the town coupled with the loss of basics of hygiene tools, salt and sugar. The doctors also pointed to water pollution and the spread of epidemics.

The network has appealed that urgent action was needed to save civilians in Al Fashir. It further added that “therefore, we launch this humanitarian appeal to the world and to the United Nations organizations to launch a lifeline to deliver humanitarian aid and save civilians’’.
The network has argued that delay to launch such a lifeline would lead to the death of nearly one million citizens besieged by the Rapid Support in the city of Al Fashir.
It reminded that the siege was a flagrant defiance of all UN resolutions calling for lifting the siege on the city and ending attacks against civilians in the town and its surrounding.
