Sudan Bids Farewell to Amir Al-Talib
Meroe – Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
Early Monday, Sudan bid farewell to Amir Al-Talib, the former director of Al-Gezira Theatre and Sheikan Theatre, a member of the Khartoum Capital of Culture Secretariat (2005), former advisor to the Federal Ministry of Culture, and an active figure in cultural and theatrical forums and events. Al-Talib passed away after a long battle with diabetes complications during a treatment trip from Meroe to Port Sudan.
Born in the Wad Ashana area of North Kordofan, Al-Talib was known for his wide social connections. During his tenure at Al-Jazeera Theatre (1978–1986), the theatre hosted performances by local and international troupes, including the “United Artists,” which presented the famous Egyptian actor Adel Imam’s play Shahid Mashafsh Haga (Witness Who Saw Nothing).
Acting Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Ibrahim had covered all medical expenses for Al-Talib’s treatment and arranged for his transfer to Al-Daman Hospital in Meroe, where he underwent surgery and rested for weeks. However, as he was en route to Port Sudan, he passed away early in the morning in the Haya area, and his body was transferred to Port Sudan.
