Sisi to CIA Director: Sudan’s Sovereignty and Unity Are Non-Negotiable

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held talks in Cairo on Sunday with CIA Director John Ratcliffe, in the presence of Hassan Rashad, Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency said the meeting addressed the Sudanese crisis, with El-Sisi reaffirming Egypt’s steadfast position in support of Sudan’s unity and stability and the preservation of its legitimate national institutions. He stressed that Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity are non-negotiable constants.

He also highlighted Egypt’s active and constructive engagement in various international and regional frameworks concerned with the Sudanese crisis, aimed at ending the war, alleviating humanitarian suffering, and supporting a political settlement.

The presidential spokesperson added that the talks also addressed developments in the Horn of Africa. El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for efforts to achieve security and stability in Somalia and its categorical rejection of any infringement on Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, or territorial integrity.

The president also reviewed developments in the Middle East, reaffirming Egypt’s full support for efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement to end the Iran crisis, contributing to the restoration of security and stability in the region and ensuring freedom of international navigation.

For his part, the CIA director expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s active role in supporting security and stability across Africa. He stressed the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the relevant authorities in the two countries, particularly regarding the Sudanese crisis, developments in Somalia and the Horn of Africa, and international maritime security.

He added that such coordination would support efforts to address security and geopolitical challenges, terrorist organizations, and organized crime, while enhancing the exchange of assessments, perspectives, and information on various regional and international developments affecting the security and stability of the region.
