Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
Government authorities in the Federal Ministry of Health and the Red Sea State launched the first batches of a King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) grant for dialysis supplies on Thursday in Port Sudan. The grant is part of a project by the World Health Organization (WHO) and was attended by the Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, the WHO Representative in Sudan, Dr. Shible Sahbani, and several ministry officials.
Federal Health Minister Haitham Ibrahim expressed his happiness at receiving the Saudi grant, valued at $5 million, which is sufficient to cover the needs of dialysis centres for six months. He emphasized that this grant would help bridge the gap caused by the violations of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which destroyed and looted hospitals and dialysis centres. He praised the ongoing support from KSrelief and the WHO.
For his part, the WHO Representative in Sudan, Dr. Shible Sahbani, highlighted the importance of this grant in supporting kidney patients, noting that it significantly contributes to meeting the needs of this sector. He called on organizations and donors to support Sudan’s health sector further.
In the same context, the Director of the National Program for Kidney Diseases and Surgery, Dr Nizar Zalfo, revealed that the grant includes 233,000 dialysis sessions, 60 dialysis machines, and six water purification units, enhancing health facilities’ efficiency.
