RSF Shells Maternity Hospital in Omdurman Hours After Its Reopening
Omdurman – Sudanhorizon
The rebel militia used artillery shelling, on Friday, on the Maternity Hospital in Omdurman and the surrounding areas hours after its opening, with a large number of shells falling, leaving widespread destruction in the buildings.
The Khartoum State Health Emergency Committee issued a statement condemning the attack, which confirms the militia’s targeting of health facilities and disrupting efforts to provide medical services to citizens.
The head of the committee and the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Khartoum State, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, said that the militia had carried out extensive looting of the hospital’s equipment and devices and turned it into a military barracks, which is the largest specialized hospital in the country. However, the committee worked hard to reopen it yesterday and received a number of pregnant women for review purposes, stressing that the targeting will not deter health cadres from continuing their work, which has continued throughout the war without interruption, calling on international organizations to play their role stipulated in international humanitarian law to protect civilian facilities during wars.
