Ministerial Meeting Reviews Operational Requirements for the Gezira Scheme

A ministerial meeting was held on Wednesday to discuss the operational requirements for the Gezira Scheme for the agricultural season. The aim is to ensure the smooth flow of production processes and the achievement of the project’s economic and developmental goals, given its status as one of the most important strategic agricultural projects in the country.
This took place during the first meeting of the committee tasked with providing the operational requirements for the Gezira Scheme, held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Dr. Ismat Qureshi Abdullah, and attended by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, the Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, the Minister of Digital Transformation and Communications, the Governor of Gezira State, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, and a number of other officials and relevant stakeholders.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination between government agencies and relevant financial and technical institutions to provide the necessary resources for the project in a timely manner. This will contribute to increased productivity, support food security, and enhance the agricultural sector’s contribution to the national economy.
The meeting also addressed several proposals and practical measures related to financing agricultural inputs and providing the services required for a successful agricultural season. It was agreed that coordination and follow-up would continue through the committee to ensure the implementation of the agreed-upon outputs and recommendations.
