Khidir Haroun’s Witty Remark on Blinken’s Speech
Sudanhorizon – Follow-ups
Former Sudanese Ambassador to Washington, Khidir Haroun, pointed out U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s address to the UN Security Council on Thursday. Haroun noted that Blinken deliberately avoided mentioning the country responsible for the humanitarian tragedy in Sudan.
Writing on his X (formerly Twitter) account last night, Haroun stated:
“The U.S. Secretary of State chose, in his speech before the UN Security Council today, not to accuse the United Arab Emirates, a U.S. ally, as the main culprit in Sudan’s war.”
He added a touch of humour, invoking a well-known Sudanese proverb:
“This reminds us of the sarcastic Sudanese saying: ‘Your eyes are on the elephant, but you stab at its shadow!'”
