The periodic meeting of the Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for Return to Khartoum State, headed by Transitional Sovereign Council member and Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Engineer Ibrahim Jaber , has commended the efforts of workers in the electricity, water, roads, and bridges sectors.

The committee praised the role played by workers in these sectors in securing delivery of electricity and water supplies to facilities and residential areas, and continuing the maintenance and rehabilitation of roads and bridges.

Jaber affirmed the government’s continued efforts to provide the necessary resources to meet rehabilitation requirements and overcome all challenges facing the service sectors, in coordination with customs authorities to expedite the arrival of equipment and operating materials.

General Jaber also commended the presentations and performance reports of the committees on the work completed during the past month. He called for preparations to accommodate the increasing return of citizens by securing regular supply of electricity to meet the needs of Ramadan and the summer season.

He commended the ongoing cooperation of the Federal Ministry of Finance with the subcommittees, noting the necessity of continuing to pay the electricity sector’s dues and fulfilling the government’s commitment to contribute, alongside the private sector, to the rehabilitation of the electricity infrastructure in the Bahri Industrial Area.

In the same context, the member of the Sovereign Council stressed the importance of preserving the gains achieved by the Water Sector Rehabilitation Committee, directing that the central laboratory be upgraded according to precise international standards to ensure drining water quality and safety.

For his part, the Governor of Khartoum pointed to the significant progress made in the electricity sector with the connection of a considerable number of neighborhoods and facilities to the grid. He explained that the distribution of transformers is carried out according to plans based on technical standards and population density, and called for the completion of the remaining transformers of varying capacities to help stop the phenomenon of haphazard connections and provide electricity to neighborhoods that were damaged during the war.

Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim, revealed that the contracting procedures for the supply of approximately 4,000 transformers have been finalized, and payments are currently being processed. He affirmed that programs to prepare the environment for the return of displaced persons are among the ministry’s spending priorities. Representatives from the electricity, water, roads and bridges, and media committees reviewed performance reports, announcing the arrival of approximately 500 transformers, with another 1,500 expected in the coming days. They noted that distribution work had been completed at 100%, 892 transformers had been serviced to date, and new meters had been provided to combat illegal connections.

The reports also indicated a significant improvement in water supply and increased productivity, with 28 residential blocks in Al-Azhari City now connected to the network.
