IGAD Congratulates Ethiopia on Successful General Elections

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development has congratulated the government and people of Ethiopia on the successful conduct of the general elections held on June 1.

The regional organization also extended its congratulations to Abiy Ahmed and the Prosperity Party for securing a majority in the elections, according to results announced by the National Election Board of Ethiopia.

In a statement, IGAD commended the National Election Board of Ethiopia for its professionalism and dedication in managing the electoral process. The organization also praised the Ethiopian people for their peaceful participation, which contributed to the smooth and orderly conduct of the elections.

IGAD noted that the successful completion of the elections reflects Ethiopia’s continued commitment to democratic governance and constitutional order. The organization expressed confidence in the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national unity, promote inclusive dialogue, and advance peace, stability, and sustainable development.

In its concluding remarks, IGAD reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ethiopian government to enhance regional cooperation and integration, while promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development throughout the IGAD region.
