Gezira Governor Congratulates New Agricultural and Livestock Professions Council and Affirms Support for Farmers

Gezira State Governor Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair extended his congratulations to the new Council for the Regulation of Agricultural and Livestock Professions in the Gezira and Managil Scheme on the occasion of its first executive office meeting.

Addressing the council’s meeting at the Farmers’ Union headquarters today (Monday), the governor said Gezira’s farmers had set an example of consensus, unity, and prioritizing the public interest in their recent elections, according to the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).

The governor announced that the state government, in coordination with the Governor of the Gezira Scheme, is planning and working to connect villages within the scheme to road networks and restore operations of the Gezira Railway.

He also stressed the importance of benefiting from value-added chains so that the Gezira Scheme can once again become a driving force for the national economy. He called for collective action, transparency, avoiding past mistakes, and strengthening positive practices.

The governor reaffirmed the state government’s support for farmers, noting the growing attention being given to the Gezira Scheme by the highest levels of the state.

For his part, Gezira Scheme Governor Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa affirmed that the scheme’s administration and executive office would serve as strong supporters of farmers. He announced his commitment to implementing all programs aimed at advancing the agricultural sector and providing the council with the necessary material and logistical resources. He also called for strengthening means of production and working together with a unified purpose.

Engineer Abdel-Baqi Nour Al-Daim Mohamed, Chairman of the Executive Office for the Regulation of Agricultural and Livestock Professions in the Gezira and Managil Scheme, commended all grassroots associations that contributed to the formation of the executive office.

He announced that their approach would be based on institutional governance and transparency, strengthening ties with production partners, and working with all stakeholders to address the scheme’s accumulated challenges.

For his part, Mawlana Abu Bakr Osman, Registrar-General of Agricultural and Livestock Production Professions Organizations, announced that 1,982 grassroots associations, 128 specialized-type organizations, and 21 specialized organizations had been established, with 147 members elevated to the General Assembly, which subsequently selected the executive office.
