Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Meets Russian Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman on Sidelines of Consultations

Sudan’s Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid, met on Wednesday with Georgy Krasin, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Russian Federation Council (Senate), at the council’s headquarters in Moscow.
The two sides exchanged congratulations on the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sudan and Russia and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across various fields.
During the meeting, Ambassador Muawiya briefed the Russian official on recent developments in Sudan and the government’s efforts to achieve peace and pave the way for comprehensive elections.
The undersecretary also praised the existing cooperation between the State Duma and the Sudanese government, referring to the outcomes of last month’s meeting between Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal, Director-General of Sudan’s General Intelligence Service, and the chairman of the State Duma’s Foreign Relations Committee.
The discussions also addressed the possibility of establishing a parliamentary friendship group dedicated to Sudan and organizing a parliamentary delegation visit to Khartoum in the near future, in coordination with the Foreign Relations Committee and Russian parliamentarian Angelika Glazkova.
For his part, Georgy Krasin welcomed the convening of the Sudan-Russia Political Consultation Committee and reaffirmed Russia’s satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations. He also reiterated Russia’s support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, Sudan’s Ambassador to Russia, Mohamed Al-Ghazali Siraj, described the meeting as important, noting that the Russian Federation Council serves as a significant parliamentary platform.
In remarks to Sudanhorizon, Ambassador Al-Ghazali stated that Ambassador Muawiya had updated the committee chairman on the latest developments in Sudan. He added that Sudan is seeking to strengthen support within Russia’s legislative institutions and build closer relations with Russian parliamentarians to ensure they remain informed about developments in the country and continue supporting Sudan on issues of mutual interest.
