Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr Ali Youssef Al-Sharif received a Saudi delegation at his office in Port Sudan on Wednesday. The delegation included representatives from the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, the Saudi Development Fund, and the Saudi Public Investment Fund, and was led by the Saudi Ambassador to Sudan, Ali bin Hassan Jaafar.
Ambassador Jaafar stated that the visit took place per the Saudi leadership’s directives to assess Sudan’s post-war reconstruction needs and provide the necessary support to implement required projects in coordination with Sudanese authorities.
The Sudanese minister welcomed the delegation, expressing deep appreciation for the Sudanese government and people for King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and the Saudi government’s initiative to dispatch this team. He emphasized that the visit reflects the strong brotherly ties between the two nations and underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Sudan’s unity, security, stability, and prosperity during this critical period.
Dr. Al-Sharif also noted that Saudi Arabia has consistently stood by Sudan in times of crisis and praised the delegation for being among the first to arrive with support. He highlighted the symbolic timing of the visit, coinciding with the declaration of Khartoum as liberated from the destruction and violations caused by the rebellious militia, which had inflicted severe damage on Sudan’s infrastructure, public facilities, and private property.
For his part, the Saudi ambassador outlined the delegation’s mission, which involves assessing Sudan’s needs in rehabilitating and reconstructing key infrastructure and public services, including electricity, water, healthcare, and other essential sectors. This initiative is part of a six-month emergency relief program to support Sudan’s recovery as security is restored and life returns to normal.
