Fatima and Aisha… Success Stories Told by “Erada”

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
After an exhausting search, Fatima Ahmed finally found her breakthrough in expanding her small farm, despite repeated, fruitless attempts to knock on bank doors. Fatima, who lives in Gezira State in central Sudan, aspired to grow her small enterprise, but limited financial means stood in the way of her dream. Her initial option was to approach banks and apply for microfinance, yet the required guarantees were beyond her capacity. That was until Erada—a subsidiary of Bank of Khartoum—offered her a golden solution. Fatima says:
“Erada came and believed in my dream before looking at what I owned.”
Erada Turns Women’s Dreams into Reality
What Fatima dreams of is the same dream shared by hundreds of women across Sudan’s states—women who seek to change their living conditions and move towards a better quality of life, despite lacking sufficient capital. Yet Erada, a pioneer in empowering rural women in Sudan and a product of the Bank of Khartoum’s forward-thinking decision-making, has transformed what once seemed impossible into a lived reality.
Fatima is not alone in achieving her goal. From eastern Sudan, in Kassala, Aisha Mohamed recounts her experience:
“I started with a small loan to buy improved seeds, and today I train other women in modern agricultural techniques. Erada did not just give me money; it gave me confidence in myself.”
Social Development Driven by Erada
Erada does not finance a woman merely to support a single project; it contributes to transforming entire communities. Its social impact extends to women who invest up to 90 per cent of their income in their children’s education and their families’ health. These women also become role models for others in their communities and contribute directly to local and national food security.
For Erada, the rural woman is not merely a beneficiary of development—she is its primary driver. This is the belief that guides Erada, and this is the mission it works to realise every single day.
