A joint meeting between the Director General of the Khartoum State Ministry of Health and Acting Minister, Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin, and the Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan, Traio Bozarkova, revealed a comprehensive three-year support package for the state’s health system. The package will cover maintenance, infrastructure establishment, equipment provision, and capacity building.
The UNDP official explained that the upcoming health support program will be implemented jointly by several UN agencies and the African Development Bank. She noted that the program will provide training and capacity building for doctors across multiple specialties, in addition to supplying medicines and medical waste incinerators, according to the Sudan News Agency.
The UN official stated that her visit to the Khartoum State Ministry of Health comes within the framework of strengthening health sector support for the state, requesting detailed information regarding the actual need for insulin supplies.
For his part, Acting Minister Dr. Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Amin directed the ministry’s Tuberculosis and AIDS Program Director to prepare a comprehensive plan outlining the urgent needs of both programs. This followed a briefing by program representatives during the meeting — attended by the Director of the Pharmacy Department, Dr. Suhair Al-Tayeb, and the Director of the TB and AIDS Control Program, Sawsan Zakaria — on the program’s urgent need to intervene in the rehabilitation of Abu Anja Hospital for Chest Diseases and the Tropical Diseases Hospital in Omdurman.
The minister stressed the importance of accurate assessments in developing comprehensive plans that determine the required support from donors and ensure optimal utilization of grants in line with actual needs.
Meanwhile, the UNDP representative and her accompanying delegation are conducting field visits on Thursday to Abu Anja Hospital, the Tropical Diseases Hospital, and Al-Nau Hospital to assess the actual needs for support.
