Darfur Diaspora Associations in the UK Welcomes ICC Report

The Darfur Diaspora Associations in the UK have welcomed the report by the Deputy Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), which meticulously documented the atrocities and serious violations amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity, committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Darfur.

The report also confirmed that these crimes continue to be perpetrated on a widespread and systematic scale, with complete impunity, and that the suffering of victims and displaced persons persists.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Association commended the vital role played by the ICC in prosecuting those responsible for these crimes. It affirmed that international justice represents hope for victims and their families for redress, accountability, and non-recurrence.

The Darfur Diaspora Associations in the UK reiterated its appeal to the international community, the member states of the Security Council, and donor countries to provide political, legal, and financial support to the ICC so that it can fulfill its role in prosecuting the accused and achieving justice for crimes described as among the worst of in present day time.

The coalition called on the international community to hold its members accountable for their continued violations of international law and their threats to international peace and security through their blatant support of militias.

It also reiterated its full solidarity with the victims, survivors, and their families, and affirmed its commitment to continuing to work with human rights and legal partners to achieve justice.

The coalition emphasized that it will not hesitate to utilize all available mechanisms under international humanitarian law and international criminal law to ensure accountability, prevent impunity, provide reparations, and end the cycle of violence in Sudan.
