Al-Amin Daoud: Nyon Meetings Provide Space for Dialogue Among Sudanese Forces

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Moussa
Al-Amin Daoud, head of the media sector of the Democratic Bloc, has clarified that the meetings currently held in Nyon, Switzerland, differ from official negotiating platforms, noting that they are not authorized to conclude agreements or issue binding outcomes.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon news website, Daoud said that the Nyon meetings aim to provide a space for dialogue, the exchange of views, and bridging the gaps between Sudanese political and civil forces, thus supporting the ongoing political settlement efforts. He pointed out that the relationship between the Nyon meetings and the Five-Party Mechanism is based on integration and mutual support, explaining that Nyon represents an informal platform for discussion and building understandings, while the Five-Party Mechanism plays a more formal political and diplomatic role in supporting the Sudanese solution process.

Daoud added that the multiplicity of Sudanese dialogue platforms can be a positive factor if it contributes to broadening participation and involving various national forces, provided there is coordination among these platforms and unity of purpose. This would prevent the fragmentation of efforts and enhance the chances of reaching a comprehensive political consensus. He emphasized that informal platforms, such as the Nyon Process, represent added value to the Sudanese political process as long as they support and complement official initiatives, and contribute to building trust and strengthening opportunities for dialogue and consensus among the various Sudanese parties.
It is worth noting that the Nyon Process in Switzerland is one of the informal dialogue platforms supporting political settlement efforts in Sudan. Its sixth round was recently held with the participation of a wide spectrum of Sudanese political and civil forces, along with a number of independent figures, international envoys, and peace experts.
Representatives from the Sumud Alliance, the Democratic Bloc, the National Movement led by Tijani Sisi, and the Popular Congress Party led by Ali al-Hajj participated in this round, in addition to a number of independent figures, including Nour al-Din Sati and others. The meetings were also attended by representatives of the Quintet Mechanism and a number of international envoys, along with representatives from Egypt, peace experts from Switzerland and other international bodies.
