African Union Condemns Attack on Worshippers in El Fasher

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, strongly condemned the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) attack on worshippers in El Fasher on Friday, which claimed the lives of 75 people.
In a statement issued Saturday, he said: “This heinous act represents a blatant violation of basic human values and principles, as well as international humanitarian law,” extending his condolences to the families of the victims and to the people of Sudan.
The AU Chairperson renewed his call for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Sudan to end the horrific suffering inflicted on civilians, in line with the commitments made under the Jeddah Agreement dated May 20, 2023.
He further stressed the need for an inclusive political dialogue as the only viable path toward a just, peaceful, and sustainable resolution of the conflict in Sudan.
The African Union Commission reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the Sudanese people and its readiness to work closely with all Sudanese and international stakeholders in support of efforts to restore peace, security, national cohesion, and stability in the country.
