Sources to Sudanhorizon: RSF Attacks on Atbara Contained
Sudanhorizon – Maryam Absher – Exclusive
Information obtained by the Sudanhorizon website from reliable sources confirmed that the events that took place yesterday evening (Friday) in the “Aqeedat Al-Doum” area, southeast of the city of Atbara, have been contained.
The sources said that the incidents in that area occurred as a result of disputes among members of the joint forces, and that they were swiftly contained and dealt with in a timely manner. The sources pointed to the calm situation and the restoration of security by the competent authorities, noting that the presence of the joint forces in the state comes within the context of overseeing the management of administrative offices affiliated with those forces.
In a related context, the information confirmed that maintenance works for the re-operation of the Atbara power substation are nearing completion. It added that part of the electricity supply is being provided from within the state, while the remaining part is being supplemented from Khartoum State. It noted that scheduled power outages are part of an equitable distribution of supply until the main transformer is brought back into operation, which is expected soon.
Sudanhorizon also obtained new information regarding the militia’s recent targeting, using drones, of some infrastructure and service projects in the city of Atbara. Well-informed sources speaking to Sudanhorizon categorically denied what had been circulated regarding the launch site of the militia’s drones, refuting claims that they were launched from a farm within Al-Damer locality.
The sources confirmed that the militia launched its drones from a state bordering River Nile State, adding that the number of drones reached 36. Ground-based air defenses managed to thwart and shoot down a large number of them before they reached their targets, although some did manage to hit certain service projects.
