Al-Dabba – Sudanhorizon
Mohammed Murad, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Lawyers Union and head of the team tasked with investigating violations committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against civilians across various regions of Sudan, said that the team has begun field investigations and documentation of violations and war crimes. He noted that they conducted an inspection visit to Al-Affad Camp in Al-Dabba, where they met victims of violations and crimes against humanity they were subjected to in the city of El-Fasher.
Murad explained, in a press statement, that there is coordination between the team and the Sudanese Bar Association, which he said has provided the team with what is necessary to carry out its tasks accurately and to define the paths required to accomplish the mission entrusted to them by the Arab Lawyers Union.
He pointed out that at Al-Affad Camp, testimonies were taken and meetings were held with a number of victims, with separate rooms allocated for this purpose. He added that the documentation of violations exceeded expectations, and that consultations were held on how to deal with the displaced persons.
The delegation of the Arab Lawyers Union had arrived in the city of Port Sudan on the nineteenth of the current month, based on a decision issued by the Union’s Permanent Bureau in November 2023, to investigate violations and crimes against humanity committed by the Rapid Support Forces. He noted that this step comes within the framework of the Union fulfilling its natural role and emphasizing the importance of establishing a legal team to carry out its duties toward the victims, and that the team’s tasks, competencies, and headquarters have been determined.
Murad also indicated that they had previously submitted their second report, after which they moved to the field to collect evidence and witnesses and to establish a database in coordination with the Sudanese Bar Association.
