The Sudanese Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris returned to the country this morning (Friday) following his participation in the United Nations Security Council session held last Monday at Sudan’s request.

In a press conference immediately upon his arrival, the Prime Minister reviewed the outcomes of his participation in the session and the meetings he held at the United Nations, affirming that the visit represented a historic milestone in Sudan’s engagement with the international community.

The Prime Minister confirmed that the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, closely followed all details related to the initiative he presented and continuously supervised it from its earliest stages, commending in this regard the efforts of Prince Mohammed bin Salman and U.S. President Donald Trump. He also praised the support of the members of the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers, the armed forces, the police, the mobilized forces, and all those who contributed to the “existential battle” through thought, funding, or the spoken and written word.

The Prime Minister revealed that he held productive meetings with the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, in addition to meetings with the African Group within the Council, affirming that they expressed strong and explicit support for Sudan and contributed to promoting the Sudanese initiative within the Security Council.

He stressed that the “Sudanese Government Peace Initiative” is a national initiative with purely Sudanese ownership, whose true owners are the Sudanese people in all their components, explaining that Sudan emphasized during the briefing preceding the Security Council session that its efforts complement international initiatives supporting peace.

The Prime Minister clarified that Sudan stated clearly within the corridors of the United Nations that Sudanese are advocates of peace, not war, refuting the prevailing impression of rejecting peace, and stressing that peace is a firm and deeply rooted principle for the Sudanese people.

He noted that this participation marks the first time since the outbreak of the war that Sudan has moved from a position of receiving to a position of initiative within the international community, by presenting a purely Sudanese initiative, reflecting full recognition of the Sudanese civilian government.

He also affirmed that the meetings with the UN Secretary-General, the African Group, and friendly countries, in addition to Turkey, Egypt, Russia, China, Pakistan, Qatar, and Eritrea, strengthened international support for Sudan and paved the way for upcoming steps aimed at adopting a comprehensive vision to achieve urgent and sustainable peace.

The Prime Minister concluded by emphasizing that the visit, by all measures, was a historic one that laid the foundation for a new phase in which Sudan moves forward as an initiating state and a leader of peace efforts.
