Egypt Warns Against Crossing Red-Lines on Issues related to Sudan

Cairo – Sudanhorizon

The Egyptian Presidency has stressed that it will not tolerate crossing of “red lines” on issues relevant to the Sudan, warning that it would take measures – which it did not specify – to counter such a situation.

These positions were expressed in a statement following talks between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and the head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, in Cairo on Thursday.

The statement indicated that Cairo is following with grave concern the continued escalation and extreme tension in Sudan, and the resulting horrific massacres and blatant violations of the most basic human rights against Sudanese civilians, especially in El Fasher.

It added, “Egypt affirms that there are red lines that cannot be crossed or tolerated, as this directly affects Egyptian national security, which is directly linked to Sudanese national security.”

The statement explained that the most important red lines are those related to preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan, including preventing the secession of any part of Sudanese territory and maintaining and protecting Sudanese state institutions.

The presidential statement affirmed Egypt’s right to “take all necessary measures and actions guaranteed by international law and the joint defense agreement between the two brotherly countries to ensure that these red lines are not violated or crossed.”

Cairo reiterated its categorical rejection of the establishment of any parallel entities or their recognition, considering this a threat to Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.

It announced its full support for US President Donald Trump’s vision for achieving security, stability, and peace in Sudan, within the framework of his efforts to establish peace, avoid escalation, and resolve conflicts worldwide.

It expressed its commitment to continuing to work within the framework of the Quartet to reach a humanitarian truce leading to a ceasefire, including the establishment of safe havens and humanitarian corridors to provide security and protection for civilians, in full coordination with Sudanese state institutions.

For its part, the Sovereign Council stated in a statement that the Chair of the Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi held joint talks at the Presidential Palace in Cairo concerning the development and enhancement of bilateral relations and strengthening cooperation between the two sister states.

The talks addressed regional and international issues, including the situation in the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa. Both countries affirmed their shared vision regarding national security priorities and their commitment to continued coordination to protect water security and reject unilateral actions in the Blue Nile Basin.

The statement explained that the discussions covered the latest developments in Sudan and the ongoing efforts to achieve peace. Regional and international efforts to restore peace and stability were reviewed.

Egypt reiterated its unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, security, and stability of Sudan.

The talks also addressed Egypt’s readiness to provide all possible assistance to the Sudanese people in addressing the current humanitarian crisis, while emphasizing the need to stop the crimes being committed against the Sudanese people and hold those responsible accountable.
