The Committee on Illegal Collections, which was recently formed by a decision of the Prime Minister, held its first meeting today (Thursday) at the Council of Ministers in Port Sudan. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Justice, Dr. Abdullah Darf, as Committee Chair, with the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, serving as Deputy Chair, and with the participation of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance and all relevant authorities.
According to a press release issued by the Media Office of the Ministry of Justice, the committee affirmed during the meeting its commitment to combating the practice of off-budget revenue retention within state institutions, and to tightening regulations that prevent any form of collection outside the approved federal and state budgets. The committee also emphasized strengthening the capabilities of oversight teams to prevent unregulated collections on national and inter-state highways. It further reaffirmed the removal of all illegal collection points on major roads and adherence exclusively to electronic collection.
The committee pledged to ensure strong coordination with the Public Prosecution, the Ministry of Federal Governance, and Rural Development to eliminate legislative overlaps between federal and state authorities.
The meeting stressed the necessity of preventing negative practices at collection points on national roads. A technical committee was also formed, chaired by the Ministry of Finance, to conduct tours across the states, with an emphasis on the important role of the media in raising public awareness to support integrated efforts to eliminate illegal collections.
