Minister of Industry Launches An Exciting Package of Policies
Sudanhorizon – Nazik Shammam
Sudanese Minister of Industry and Trade, Mahasin Yaqoub, has announced the adoption of a package of policies to rebuild war-damaged industrial infrastructure and achieve self-sufficiency in several key commodities through domestic production.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, the minister revealed ongoing efforts to restore industrial investment to areas affected by the conflict. This includes preparing an industrial investment map outlining investment opportunities across all states.
The minister confirmed that a significant number of factories have relocated to safe states, in addition to the rehabilitation of older factories in Khartoum State. She noted that approximately 57 industrial establishments in Khartoum were not affected by looting or theft.
She also pointed to efforts to develop small industries through the establishment of five industrial complexes dedicated to small-scale and artisanal manufacturing. The minister affirmed that her ministry is seeking to attract technical support from regional organisations and friendly states.
The war in Sudan has caused widespread destruction of infrastructure and industrial facilities in Khartoum State. Losses to the country’s industrial sector are estimated at around USD 50 billion since the outbreak of the conflict.
