The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation announced the launch of a digital transformation project aimed at advancing the agricultural sector and enhancing water resource management, focusing on capacity building and efficiency improvement.

Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Ismat Qureshi Abdullah, explained that this project aligns with the government’s directives, under the auspices of the Prime Minister, and is part of a shared vision with the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications. He emphasized that this project comes at a critical time requiring concerted efforts, as digital transformation represents a fundamental strategic tool for developing the agricultural sector and establishing ambitious foundations for water resource management, thus contributing to mitigating the effects of the war.

He added that the digital program will play a pivotal role in assisting farmers and specialists with technical aspects and documenting crucial data. This includes applications for monitoring crop growth and irrigation needs, tracking and controlling pests, evaluating production and productivity, improving decision-making tools through networking, developing water resource management, improving water use, and enhancing irrigation technologies.

The ministry indicated that training and qualifying personnel on these modern technologies, as well as restoring and providing the lost equipment and servers, are among the project’s priorities. This is essential to ensure the ability to keep pace with developments and contribute effectively to the recovery and development of the water resources and agriculture sectors.

The minister called on all relevant parties to cooperate and intensify their efforts to support this important project, which is fundamental to the recovery process and achieving sustainable water and food security, especially after the damage inflicted on infrastructure and information systems, and to move towards recovery and stability.
