Sudanhorizon Reveals Details on Sudan’s Gold Production Over 9 Months

Sudanhorizon – Nazik Shammam

An informed source has revealed that Sudan’s gold production during the first nine months of the current year reached 53 tons.

The source confirmed to Sudanhorizon that gold output from January 1 to the end of September totaled 53 tons, with projections indicating that production could reach 83 tons by the end of the year.

During the first half of the year, total production amounted to around 37 tons.

Sudan relies heavily on gold as a key source of foreign currency, particularly after losing three-quarters of its oil revenues following the secession of South Sudan in 2011, which also cost the country about 80% of its foreign exchange resources.

In a related development, the Sudanese Gold Exporters’ Chamber welcomed a decision by the Central Bank of Sudan and the Sudan Gold Refinery to adopt standards and quality control testing for gold analysis.

The chamber’s chairman, Abdul Munim Al-Siddiq, said the decision would help streamline the gold export process and prevent the state from losing any portion of its revenues.

He further affirmed that the chamber would continue efforts to maximize gold exports, emphasizing that they represent a vital pillar of the Sudanese economy during the exceptional circumstances imposed by the ongoing war.
