Russian Official: US Hostage to Israel

Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, Dmitry Polyanski, has said that the United States has become a hostage to Israel on the Palestinian issue and no longer has the ability to act independently.

The Russian diplomat added, according to Russia Today Arabic, that this was very regrettable and damages the reputation of the Security Council and the United Nations as a whole. He noted the United States now feels increasingly isolated because it was the only country that has opposed the resolution on stopping the war in Gaza.

On Thursday, the United States vetoed, for the sixth time, a Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the releasing of all remaining Israeli hostages.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated on Friday that the Security Council’s failure to stop the bloodshed in the Gaza Strip is regrettable and disappointing.

In a statement posted on its official website, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the Security Council’s inability to stop the fighting, the bloodshed, and end the suffering of civilians could only produce deep regret and disappointment.
