Nile River Governor: The State Has Hosted Three Times Its Population During the War

The Governor of River Nile State, Dr. Mohamed Al-Badawi Abdel-Majid, briefed the Federal Minister of State at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, Salima Ishaq, on the measures taken by the state to address the impacts of the war by providing services to the influx of people that increased the state’s population by more than threefold.

During his meeting with the Minister of State for Social Development, attended by the River Nile State Minister of Social Welfare, Tehani Mirghani Abdel-Hafiz, the Governor noted that all these new arrivals have been provided with shelter, food, healthcare, education, and social welfare services. He added that River Nile State has also absorbed large numbers of civil service employees into positions equivalent to their previous posts in Khartoum.

For her part, Salima Ishaq, Minister of State at the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, praised the efforts of the state in addressing the consequences of the war for all displaced persons and providing them with essential services. She stressed that the true capital of the state lies in its human resources, and that investing in this area represents the real future—especially given that 70% of Sudan’s population consists of youth and children.

She further noted that economic development in the country significantly contributes to social security, adding that the economic revival witnessed in River Nile State, which has absorbed many factories and investments, has created thousands of job opportunities for young men and women.
