PM Debriefed on Plans to Restore Electricity Service in Khartoum

The Prime Minister, Dr Kamil Idris, has confirmed the return of the Ministry of Energy’s workforce to the capital, Khartoum.
Kamil headed a meeting with the Ministry of Energy and Oil at the Khartoum State Government Secretariat Hall, stressing that electricity represents one of the prerequisite for people to return to their homes in Khartoum State.
The meeting discussed the plan to supply Khartoum and the various neighborhoods with electricity and petroleum products. It also discussed the overall performance in the electricity and petroleum sectors.
The Prime Minister endorsed the plans developed by the Ministry of Energy and Oil for Khartoum.
He emphasized that electricity represents the basic service people need to return, as it is linked to all other services, allowing them to return to their homes and resume their daily life. Electricity supply is also essential for other services, including health, education, water, and petroleum products.
For his part, the Minister of Energy and Oil, Moatasem Ibrahim, indicated that his ministry has begun putting in place clear plans for the return of its employees to their headquarters in Khartoum, as well as some employees in the oil sector.
He stated that the ministry has supplied the main water and electricity stations and 90% of health facilities with electricity supply, in addition to an urgent plan to supply wells and petrol stations with solar energy.
He pointed out that his ministry has implemented the emergency plan in Khartoum, emphasizing the Prime Minister’s message that citizens are eager to return to Khartoum, but the necessary basic services must be secured.
He promised that Khartoum will receive electricity in the coming days from several transformer stations, which will contribute to the stability of the electricity supply, in addition to a plan to restore the control center to its former state.
