Minerals Minister Stresses the Need to Address Negative Impacts of Traditional Mining

The Minister of Minerals, Nour Al-Daem Taha, emphasized the need to address the negative impacts of traditional mining by developing and regulating it through the involvement of stakeholders.
During a meeting held today, on Monday, with employees of the General Authority for Geological Research, the Minister expressed his commitment to improving the employment conditions of workers in the mining sector and creating an attractive and motivating work environment.
He also pledged to enhance the performance of the General Authority for Geological Research, stressing the importance of strengthening scientific research, intensifying specialized training for human resources, and adopting modern technology in research and exploration processes, in addition to building smart partnerships with advanced countries in the field of mining.
For his part, the Director-General of the Authority, Geological Consultant Ahmed Haroun, presented the key features of the Authority’s 2025 plan, which includes building a strong database, implementing full digital transformation, and reconstructing what was destroyed by the war, along with conducting geological and geochemical surveys in safe states and continuing efforts to diversify and promote the country’s rich mineral resources.
Haroun noted that the inventory and assessment committee has completed its work at the ministry’s headquarters and has now entered the stage of restoration and rehabilitation. He also revealed the completion of a new five-year plan covering the period from 2026 to 2031, focusing on sustainability and long-term international and local partnerships.
