U.S. Magazine: Recent Developments in Sudan Mark a Major Turning Point in the Fighting

New York – Sudanhorizon
The American magazine Politics, which focuses on U.S. national security issues, described the Sudanese Armed Forces’ (SAF) recent campaign—culminating in the liberation of the Presidential Palace and later Khartoum International Airport—as a major turning point in the ongoing war.
In a brief report on Wednesday, the magazine stated that the Sudanese army is making significant advances on the battlefield, “forcing the opposing militia out of the war-torn capital after two years of fighting.” It referred to this event as a “potentially pivotal moment” in the war, which has become one of Africa’s deadliest conflicts.
The report noted that SAF has gained control over large parts of Khartoum, while the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are withdrawing from the capital in large numbers. It also predicted that “the Sudanese army was in a position to reclaim Khartoum International Airport” just hours before the airport’s official recapture.
Additionally, Politics highlighted the conflict’s geopolitical ramifications, stating that external powers—including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia, and Egypt—have been supplying weapons and resources to various factions. The magazine underscored the severe humanitarian toll of the war, with an estimated 150,000 deaths and around 13 million people displaced, making it one of the worst ongoing humanitarian crises in the world.
