The Winter Agricultural Season Faces no Threat other than Security Challenges

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr Gibril Ibrahim, was reassured about the progress of preparations for the winter agricultural season and the provision of production inputs such as seeds, fertilizers, and fuel required for farming operations.
The Minister stressed, during the meeting on the season at the Ministry on Monday, the government’s interest in completing the preparations and providing all the necessary supplies to ensure the success of agricultural operations, pointing to the possibility of benefiting from coordination opportunities through the World Food Program to provide seeds and fertilizers to producers.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Forests, Dr. Abu Bakr Omar Al-Bishri, participated in the meeting via satellite and confirmed that the preparations are reassuring and are not threatened other than security obstacles. He also revealed the World Food Program’s readiness to finance the purchase of 15,000 tons of urea fertilizer and 5,000 tons of DAP.
Meanwhile, the General Manager of the Agricultural Bank, Mohamed Adam Abdel Karim, revealed that the bank has arranged to purchase 50,000 tons of DAP for the benefit of farmers, announcing the completion of providing DAP and urea fertilizers to farmers in the northern Nile River and western Gezira states. At the same time, efforts continue to finance the purchase of more fertilizers, burlap and pesticides for farmers in the various targeted states.
