Joint Forces Spokesperson: Liberation of Kazqil and Abu Qoud Boosts El-Obeid Security, Advances the Lifting of Siege on Diling & Kadugli
Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Musa
The official spokesperson for the Joint Forces, Mutawakkil Ali Wakil, known as “Abuja”, confirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Joint Forces liberated new areas on Thursday following fierce battles with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, as part of ongoing military operations in the area.
In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, Abuja said the liberated areas included Kazqil, Abu Qoud and surrounding locations in South Kordofan State. He noted that the forces were continuing to advance on the ground and that military operations were ongoing to pursue the remaining militia elements. He added that these developments were part of efforts to expand control and secure military fronts and liberated areas.
Regarding the strategic significance of the newly liberated areas, Abuja explained that Kazqil lies approximately 45 kilometres south of El-Obeid. Its importance stems from its location along the route connecting the cities of Al-Dibeibat and Dilling, as well as its position on the main road linking North and South Kordofan. This makes it a key base for military and logistical movements. He added that securing Kazqil would help facilitate the lifting of the sieges on Dilling and Kadugli in South Kordofan.
As for Abu Qoud, the Joint Forces spokesperson said the area lies approximately 43 kilometres southwest of El-Obeid and about 14 kilometres from Umm Sumayma. He explained that it was previously an important fuel market and a major rest stop for travellers. Some buses travelling to El Fasher also used to refuel there. He noted that Abu Qoud is regarded as the first line of defence for El-Obeid, given its strategic location and importance in securing roads and movements around the city.
