The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning directed the preparation of an integrated study to address the urgent needs of the electricity and water sectors and provide citizens’ needs as a priority. A joint meeting between the Ministries of Finance, Energy and Oil, and Irrigation, headed by the Minister of Finance and with the participation of the Minister of Energy at the Ministries Complex in Port Sudan, on Thursday, highlighted the necessity of meeting the electricity needs of the residential sector and encouraging productive sectors.

A directive was given to prepare an integrated study that includes the cost of production, operation, and distribution, and the requirements for stabilizing the electricity supply and distributing it fairly to ensure the continuation of the state’s support for the vulnerable groups and ensure the safe return of citizens to their homes. The Minister of Finance promised to provide the required guarantees to provide renewable energy for generation in the context of reducing reliance on high-cost thermal generation.

A directive was given to prepare a comprehensive plan to determine the priorities of drinking water and irrigation, including operating wells with solar energy, coordinating with development partners from the relevant United Nations organizations, and benefiting from countries’ experiences in water harvesting and management.
