In a practical step aimed at strengthening economic and commercial cooperation—and in line with the outcomes of the “Private Sector Recovery Dialogue” conference, organized by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)—a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Wednesday (via video conference), between the Sudanese Employers’ Union and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
According to the Ministry of Finance’s media office, the MoU aims to establish robust mechanisms for joint action, facilitate the exchange of economic data and expertise, organize trade delegation visits, exhibitions, and joint investment events, and support initiatives in research, training, and capacity building.
Tamadur Taha, representing the Ministry of Finance, stated that the signing of this MoU marks a new starting point for enhancing cooperation and the transfer of knowledge and technology between the two nations.
She emphasized that Sudan views the private sector as the primary engine for economic recovery, reconstruction, and increased production, while urging continued coordination to translate these understandings into tangible investment projects on the ground.
Muawiya Al-Berair, President of the Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation, explained that this memorandum is a direct outcome of the Recovery Conference.
He noted that it underscores the keen interest of the Pakistani private sector in participating in reconstruction projects.
A joint working mechanism will be established, and a liaison team will be appointed to coordinate cooperation, facilitate the exchange of visits and information, and maximize the benefits from available opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, training, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, cotton, and technology transfer.
For his part, the representative of the Pakistani side emphasized the deep-rooted relations between the two nations and reaffirmed his country’s support for Sudan’s unity and sovereignty. He expressed the readiness of Pakistani companies to facilitate joint investments and remove any obstacles, while highlighting promising prospects for cooperation in agriculture, Islamic banking, digital solutions, artificial intelligence, and the pharmaceutical industry.
He also proposed the exchange of business delegations between the two countries.
Surayo Buzurukova, a representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), highlighted the significance of the agreement and the vital role of the private sector in supporting the economy and creating job opportunities.
She affirmed the UNDP’s commitment to providing full support for the implementation of this regional partnership, aiming to expand cooperation to include the exchange of knowledge, services, and banking enhancements, all in service of achieving shared development goals.
