Kuala Lumpur – Sudanhorizon

The Governor of the Darfur region, Minni Minnawi, met on Friday with the Malaysian Minister of Health, Dr. Datuk Seri Haji Dzulkefly Ahmad, to discuss ways to strengthen humanitarian and health cooperation and expand support for Sudan—specifically the Darfur region.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Malaysian-Sudanese Conference on Education and Humanitarian Recovery, which concluded sessions on Thursday in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

In a post on his Facebook page, Minnawi stated that the Malaysian Minister of Health reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing humanitarian aid and supporting the health sector in Sudan. He noted that special attention would be given to the health needs in Darfur, including support for mobile health center projects designed to reach displaced persons in their settlements and provide them with essential medical services.

The Governor of Darfur expressed his appreciation for Malaysia’s humanitarian stance in support of the Sudanese people. He looked forward to translating these understandings into practical partnerships and projects that would help alleviate human suffering, bolster health services, and restore the foundations of a dignified life for those affected by the war in Darfur.

The two-day Sudan Recovery (Darfur) Conference—organized through a partnership between the Embassy of Sudan in Malaysia, the Darfur Regional Authority, and various Malaysian charitable organizations—concluded, Thursday, in Kuala Lumpur. The conference adopted a plan centered on three key priorities, including:

Restoring essential services and ensuring they are accessible and affordable for affected communities—specifically primary medical care, maternal and child health, nutrition, and the provision of medical treatment. Strengthening Sudanese medical institutions and their medical and health personnel through cooperation with Malaysian universities and medical institutions, as well as through medical missions and the training of medical staff by Malaysian professionals.

Establishing a coordination mechanism aimed at enhancing the reliability of services.
