The Sudan Doctors Network has condemned the attack on a camp for internally displaced persons in the Wad Al-Mahi area, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens of civilians. The network described the attack as “a new crime added to the record of ongoing violations against civilians in Sudan.”
In a press statement issued Friday the network stated that it “condemns in the strongest terms the bloody massacre committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) using a drone that targeted a gathering of displaced persons in the Abu Shandi area—part of the Wad Al-Mahi locality in Blue Nile State. The attack killed 31 civilians and injured 19 others, marking yet another crime in the ongoing record of violations against civilians in Sudan.”
The network reported that, according to field information, the fatalities included four children, while the list of the injured included six children and eight women. This confirms that the attack targeted unarmed civilians in a shelter area for displaced persons who had fled the conflict in search of protection and safety.
The statement emphasized that “targeting gatherings of displaced persons with drones constitutes a full-fledged war crime and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, reflecting a gross disregard for civilian lives, particularly those of women and children.” The Sudan Doctors Network held the Rapid Support Forces militia fully responsible for this massacre and called upon the United Nations, humanitarian agencies, and international human rights organizations to take urgent action to condemn the crime, warning that “the continued targeting of civilians and displaced persons—amidst unjustified international silence—encourages the recurrence of such crimes and exacerbates the humanitarian tragedy endured by millions of Sudanese.”
