Sudan’s Delegate in UNESCO: RSF Militias Deprived Sudanese Younger Generations of their National Memory

Paris – Sudanhorizon

Sudan’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Hamid Al-Jazouli, delivered Sudan’s statement on Friday before the 225th session of the UNESCO Executive Board, currently convening at the organization’s headquarters in Paris, October 5-20.

The Ambassador explained that the war waged by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has impacted citizens and all sectors falling under UNESCO’s mandate. He noted that the militia deliberately destabilized the educational process for the younger generation and deprived them of their national memory by systematically targeting and destroying educational and cultural institutions.

The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the nations that contributed to the special account for Sudan—established by UNESCO to support the reconstruction and restoration of institutions under its mandate—and called upon other member states to actively contribute to this fund.

For his part, the delegate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia—speaking on behalf of the Arab Group at UNESCO—stated that the systematic destruction of cultural institutions and property in Sudan by the RSF rebels necessitates a concerted effort by the organization and all member states to reconstruct and restore what has been destroyed.
