Gezira Governor Bans Bladed Weapons in Public, Sets Penalties for Violators

Gezira State Governor Al-Tahir Ibrahim Al-Khair issued Emergency Order No. (11) of 2026 on Wednesday, banning the carrying of bladed weapons in public places across the state, pursuant to the provisions of the 1997 Emergency and Public Safety Act.
The order exempts individuals whose daily work requires them to possess bladed tools, provided that their use and possession are restricted to their workplaces.
The order sets penalties for violators, including imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year, a fine of up to SDG 10 million, or both penalties, in addition to the confiscation of seized items.
It also stipulates that any other penalties prescribed under relevant laws shall apply.
