Nabil Adib: No Objection to Excluding Those Who Undermine National Principles

Nabil Adib, a member of the National Dialogue Preparation Committee, affirmed that participants in the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue would accept the supreme national principles announced by the committee without hesitation.

In an exclusive statement to Sudanhorizon, Adib explained that the supreme national principles include the unity of Sudan, decentralized governance, an inclusive Sudanese identity, and a democratic system. He added that undermining any of these principles is unacceptable to Sudanese political forces with significant weight. He said that if anyone calls for abandoning any of these principles, there would be no objection to excluding them from the dialogue, because undermining any of them would complicate the Sudanese crisis rather than resolve it.

In response to a question about the committee’s position if a majority of participants rejected one of the four principles, and whether it would abide by the outcome of the dialogue or uphold the principle as a pre-established national condition, Adib explained that the committee would be dissolved once the dialogue convenes and would no longer have an independent legal existence. He added, however, that personally, he would uphold the principle in such a case and would not accept the outcomes of the dialogue, noting that it must be said that such a scenario is hypothetical and impossible.

Adib said that making a ceasefire a condition for launching the national dialogue would amount to putting the cart before the horse. He considered the war to be one of the symptoms of Sudan’s crisis rather than its cause, saying that the end of the current war would not prevent another war from breaking out unless the Sudanese crisis itself is resolved. He justified this by pointing out that Sudan’s history since independence has been marked by successive civil wars.

He stressed that ending the war alone would not bring an end to the suffering of the Sudanese people, emphasizing that dialogue is what can address the roots of the crisis and bring an end to the suffering of Sudanese people by reaching solutions to the national crisis that has continued to generate wars since independence.
