Investment Promotion Director: No Exceptions for Specific Countries in Reconstruction
Sudanhorizon – Hala Hamza
Director General of the Promotion and Agreements Department at the National Investment Authority, Islam Al-Sadiq Salama, affirmed that the door is open to all countries wishing to invest in rebuilding what was destroyed by the war.
Salama denied in remarks to Sudanhorizon that any specific country had been granted exceptions or given priority in reconstruction, saying that the Investment Authority operates in accordance with its governing law. He noted that several countries, including Egypt, Türkiye, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and China, already have investments in Sudan across various sectors.
Salama called on domestic and foreign investors to contribute to reconstruction in accordance with the Investment Law or Partnership Law through various investment models, including public-private partnerships and the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) system.
He expressed hope that strategic European partnerships would be established in the agricultural, livestock, and food production sectors, which are being given investment priority, as well as in electricity, infrastructure, and clean renewable energy production. He also noted that arrangements are being made to encourage investments by entrepreneurs in coordination with relevant authorities.
It is worth noting that Sudan’s industrial sector has suffered a major setback as a result of the war, which destroyed infrastructure in the states of Khartoum, Al Jazira, Sennar, and Darfur, as well as parts of White Nile and North, West, and South Kordofan states. This resulted in industrial hubs accounting for around 90% of the country’s industrial capacity going out of service, leading to increased demand for imports of goods that were previously produced locally.
