Energy Minister Reviews Staff Issues at Al-Obeid and Khartoum Refineries, Petro Energy and Sudapet

Minister of Energy Engineer Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed affirmed the ministry’s interest in addressing the concerns of workers in the energy sector and its commitment to strengthening communication and coordination with the General Trade Union of Electricity, Mining and Petroleum Workers, in a way that contributes to resolving outstanding issues, creating a supportive work environment, and enhancing the role of employees in developing the energy sectors and supporting reconstruction efforts.

He made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the General Trade Union of Electricity, Mining and Petroleum Workers on Thursday at his office in Khartoum.

The two sides discussed a number of issues concerning workers in the oil, electricity, and mining sectors, as well as ways to strengthen their role in developing these sectors and contributing to reconstruction efforts.

The union delegation included Chairman Abdelmoneim Mohammed Ahmed, Secretary-General Kamal Hamad Al-Mutaafi, Deputy Chairwoman Asmaa Abdel Salam, and Treasurer Essam Al-Din Babiker.

The meeting addressed issues concerning workers in the oil sector, particularly employees of refineries and petroleum companies, foremost among them the Al-Obeid Refinery, Khartoum Refinery, Petro Energy, and Sudapet, in addition to workplace conditions, employee entitlements, and improving workers’ living conditions.

The meeting also discussed issues affecting the electricity sector and efforts to restore and develop the electricity system, as well as initiatives undertaken by the union to support reconstruction efforts and enhance workers’ contribution during the recovery and development phase.

The meeting underscored the importance of workers as a fundamental pillar of stability in the energy sectors and the restoration of their efficiency, as well as their role in continuing to work and contribute during the current phase in ways that boost production, improve performance, and support reconstruction efforts.

The union delegation stressed the importance of continuing efforts to address workers’ concerns, ease the burden of living costs, and improve working conditions in ways that strengthen job stability, boost employee morale, and encourage workers to continue their efforts in support of the oil, electricity, and mining sectors.

The union delegation described the meeting as productive and promising, stressing that the issues and initiatives discussed represent an important step toward strengthening cooperation and joint action, creating conditions that enable workers to perform their roles efficiently and effectively, and moving forward with reconstruction and development efforts in a way that serves workers and supports Sudan’s path toward recovery and development.
