Sudan’s Finance Ministry: Strengthen Partnership with Asian Bank to Support Infrastructure Projects in Sudan

The Sudanese Minister of Finance Dr. Gibril Ibrahim has discussed opportunities to strengthen the partnership and prepare Sudanese projects to benefit from the Asian Bank’s programs with Alaa Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Director of the Bank’s Sixth Department. These discussions took place on the sidelines of the Asian Bank’s annual meetings currently being held in Doha, Qatar.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Ministry of Finance affirmed that this move is part of its ongoing efforts to expand partnerships and leverage international expertise to achieve the country’s economic and social recovery goals.
For his part, Alaa Mohamed Abdel Rahman, Director of the Asian Bank’s Sixth Department, highlighted the Bank’s support for projects proposed by Sudan.
He noted that the current phase focuses on technical assistance—specifically in conducting feasibility studies, project development, and capacity building—to enhance project readiness for financing and implementation, thereby paving the way for expanded future cooperation.
The Minister of Finance emphasized that Sudan looks forward to this cooperation serving as a foundation for developing an integrated, bankable portfolio of national projects. These projects aim to address current priorities, support infrastructure rehabilitation and the restoration of services, boost productive sectors, and create a more attractive investment environment.
The meeting addressed the importance of leveraging infrastructure projects to enhance economic connectivity, facilitate trade, link production areas to markets, and capitalize on Sudan’s strategic location to boost trade and regional economic integration. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of institutional coordination and enhancing the technical readiness of Sudanese entities to meet the requirements of international financial institutions, as well as developing projects grounded in robust technical and economic studies that deliver sustainable development impact.
This meeting is part of the Ministry of Finance’s efforts to expand development partnerships and mobilize international expertise and resources, thereby supporting the revival of economic activity and preparing Sudan for a new phase of investment, growth, and reconstruction.
