Minerals Ministry: About 51 Miners Killed in West Kordofan Mine Collapse

Khartoum – Sudanhorizon

The Ministry of Minerals announced that between 40 and 51 miners were killed in the collapse of mining shafts at the Al-Ragig traditional mining site in the Foga administrative unit of Al-Nuhud locality in West Kordofan State.

In a press statement issued Thursday, the Ministry of Minerals said that information received regarding the collapse of shafts at the Al-Ragig traditional mining site, which occurred on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, indicated that the collapse took place after three shafts, known locally as “Antinov” shafts, had been excavated to considerable depths.

The ministry noted that the information regarding the victims was preliminary and subject to updates, pointing to the difficulty of reaching the area, which has prevented direct field verification of the circumstances of the accident and the scale of the losses.

It explained that West Kordofan State has remained outside the scope of direct monitoring and supervision since the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023, for security reasons.
