Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The National Economic Management Committee held its regular meeting on Sunday in Khartoum, chaired by Prime Minister Kamil Idris.
Dr. Graham Abdel-Qadir, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism, stated to the press that the meeting reviewed the implementation status of decisions and directives from the previous meeting. These measures focused on improving the economic situation, stabilizing the exchange rate, and addressing the impact on citizens’ livelihoods.
The Undersecretary noted that the meeting affirmed the need to boost production and productivity in the agricultural, livestock, and other sectors. It also emphasized developing and modernizing infrastructure for Sudanese exports and encouraging manufacturing industries that add value to national products.
Dr. Graham indicated that the meeting also stressed the importance of activating electronic connectivity and coordination among relevant ministries and agencies, as well as training and qualifying personnel in the field of digital transformation.
He added that the meeting endorsed the activation of discounted-price markets to alleviate the cost-of-living burden on citizens. It further called for regulating cross-border trade and continuing to review and audit company and business name registries to verify actual business operations, while revoking the status of companies that fail to meet requirements.
The Undersecretary noted that the meeting affirmed support for the Tax Chamber to enable it to perform its duties and expand the tax base. It also directed that all loopholes leading to the erosion of the national currency be closed and that imports be regulated through the “Baladna” platform.
