Public Prosecutor: Time for the Human Rights Council to Take Action Regarding the UAE

Geneva – Sudsnhorizon

On Wednesday, the Head of the National Committee for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law—Public Prosecutor Intisar Ahmed Abdel-Aal—held a meeting in Geneva with the President of the Human Rights Council, Sidharto Reza Suryodipuro, and his aides.

The Public Prosecutor affirmed Sudan’s commitment to continued cooperation and positive engagement with the United Nations and human rights mechanisms operating in the country. She also outlined the key aspects of the Committee’s fifth interim report—currently before the Council—and the progress of investigations into various types of crimes and violations, including direct external involvement.

Intisar emphasized that the UAE’s involvement and its continued sponsorship and support of the rebel militia are the primary reasons for the war’s prolongation and the ongoing atrocities and violations against civilians.
She stated that the time has come for the international community to shoulder its responsibility by taking urgent action to halt this aggression immediately. She pointed to the terrorist act committed by the militia yesterday—targeting the courthouse complex in the city of Umm Rawaba, which claimed the lives of innocent civilians—and highlighted the promising launch of the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue announced by the President of the Sovereign Council, noting the guarantees and immunities ensuring the full freedom of participants.

Furthermore, the Public Prosecutor underscored the necessity of upholding the principle of complementarity by supporting the National Committee and strengthening its capacities, rather than imposing an external mechanism to replace it.

For his part, the Council President expressed his appreciation for the existing cooperation between the Government of Sudan and human rights mechanisms, confirming that he follows the National Committee’s reports submitted to the Council and stressing the importance of dialogue among the parties to achieve peace and stability.
