African Peace and Security Council Delegation to Arrive in Khartoum Tomorrow

A delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council is expected to arrive in Sudan tomorrow, Saturday, for an official visit—the council’s second since the outbreak of the war. The delegation will include all 15 members of the council and will be headed by Algeria’s representative, which currently holds the council’s presidency for August.

Informed sources told Sudanhorizon that the Peace and Security Council delegation’s visit will last three days.

According to information obtained by Sudanhorizon, Khartoum has completed preparations to receive the delegation, which is scheduled to meet senior state officials, including Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris.

The delegation will also meet with political forces and civil society organizations and will hold talks with officials in Khartoum, unlike its previous visit in October 2024, when discussions were held in the administrative capital, Port Sudan.

The visit comes as the African Union seeks to strengthen its engagement in the Sudan file and advance an inclusive Sudanese political process.

Last July, the African Union’s Special Envoy to Sudan, Mohamed Belaiche, discussed the political and security situation, African mediation efforts, and the reopening of the African Union’s office with senior state officials in Khartoum.
