Khartoum: Environmental Approvals a Precondition for Service and Industrial Activities

The Higher Council for Environment and Urban and Rural Development in Khartoum State has made obtaining environmental approvals a prerequisite for licensing industrial and service activities.

The decision is based on a decree issued by the Secretary-General of the Khartoum State Government, Ahmed Al-Mustafa, stipulating that no license will be issued to any facility (industrial or service) without prior environmental approval from the Higher Council for Environment.

The Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Environment and Urban and Rural Development in Khartoum State, Ghada Hussein Al-Awad, confirmed in a press statement on Monday that the procedures for obtaining environmental approvals and fulfilling environmental requirements for all facilities have been completed through the General Directorate for Environmental Impact Assessment and Licensing, in accordance with the Khartoum State Environmental Protection and Promotion Law of 2008, as amended in 2020.

The Secretary-General urged all entities that issue permits for activities in Khartoum state to first secure approval from the Council, emphasizing the Council’s commitment to full cooperation with all relevant bodies and adherence to applicable regulations.
