CAF Champions League Draw Favors Al Hilal and Al Merrikh

The draw for the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, held on Thursday in Cairo, handed Sudan’s Al Hilal a favorable opening tie against Eagle Noir of Burundi.

Should Al Hilal advance, they will face the winner of the tie between Étoile Filante de N’Djamena (Eglon) of Chad and Sidama Coffee of Ethiopia in the second preliminary round.

Sudanese champions Al Merrikh were drawn against Power Dynamos of Zambia in the opening round. If they progress, they will meet the winner of the match between Horoya AC of Guinea and JS Saoura of Algeria in the second preliminary round.

The first preliminary round is scheduled to kick off on September 4, 2026.

In the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round draw, Al Ahli Wad Madani were paired with Tusker FC of Kenya, while Hilal Al Sahel will face Elgeco Plus of Ethiopia. If Hilal Al Sahel advance, they will take on the winner of the tie between Horoya AC of Guinea and JS Saoura of Algeria in the second preliminary round.
