Leading Democratic Block Member Urges Quint

Cairo – Sudanhorizon – Sabah Mousa

The Democratic Bloc met on Thursday with the Quint Mechanism, comprising the African Union, the United Nations, the League of Arab States, the European Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The meeting was held separately to discuss the bloc’s vision for an intra-Sudanese dialogue.

Dr. Abdel Aziz Ashr, a leading figure in the Democratic Bloc who attended the meeting, told Sudanhorizon that the discussions were held exclusively with the Quint Mechanism. He explained that the bloc presented its agreed-upon vision for a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue.

Ashr described the meeting as “productive and transparent,” adding that the bloc emphasized to the mechanism that the dialogue must take place inside Sudan, be Sudanese-owned, and be inclusive. He also stressed the importance of separating the political track from the security and military track.

He further noted that the bloc insisted the role of mediators should be limited to facilitating the process, without interfering in managing or directing the dialogue, in order to preserve national ownership of the political process.
