Northern State Government Supports Comprehensive Geological Survey

The Governor of the Sudanese Northern State, Lieutenant General Abdul Rahman Abdul Hamid, has confirmed his government’s full support for the comprehensive geological survey project.
The governor praised the studies conducted by the General Authority for Geological Research in the state, which provided a precise scientific basis for promoting investment and attracting investors. He considered it a model of coordination between the state government and the Authority.
During his meeting with the Director General of the General Authority for Geological Research, Geologist Ahmed Haroun Al-Toumi, the Governor emphasized the importance of utilizing the study results in preparing geological, mineral, and investment maps, in addition to expanding agricultural mineral research to support development and agricultural production.
Director General Ahmed Haroun announced the commencement of the Central Reference Laboratory project in the state, with the delivery of the first batch of equipment. He indicated that the Authority will also implement a project to prepare contour maps and geotechnical studies for new residential plans, as well as a project to develop and invest in Nubian sandstone to support urban development.
He emphasized that the comprehensive geological survey project is the Authority’s most prominent project for 2026, as it will provide a modern database and geological and investment maps that will contribute to attracting investments and maximizing the utilization of mineral resources.
The Acting Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development, Mohamed Sayed Ahmed, explained that the geological survey project will contribute to preparing a comprehensive mineral map of the state. He also revealed that construction of the central reference laboratory will begin next month, confirming the state’s intention to attract investors to invest in sandstone deposits.
The Director of the General Authority for Geological Research’s office in the Northern State, Geologist and Consultant Makki Omar Saleh, affirmed that the reference laboratory will enhance analytical and technical consulting services and mineral identification, thus supporting exploration activities and developing the mining sector in the state.
